Ending the month where the year began

This is a picture of a leaf (?) on the wall of Wild Ginger in Williamsburg. This is where I had dinner on New Year's Day with P. I realized as I posted this that this is where I ended the month as well, truly a full circle. Also I am proud of myself for keeping with the picture taking daily. I do find it tough to post every day but I get there! :)

You really MUST try Oil of Olay

This is the sign for a restaurant near my job. I pass it all the time and I have to say I've always really liked this, I love that it's cracked in half. As if it is some ancient ruin. We actually had our admin assistants holiday dinner there this year.

Gemini Horoscope for week of January 31, 2008

HappyWomanMagazine.com sought out several supermodels for advice about spirituality. "Buddhists have the best religion," said 6'1", 102-pound Ilize Bergeron. "They don't believe in heaven or hell or God, and they don't pray. Plus, Buddhism is so mysterious that you could probably fool your boss into giving you lots of random days off work for religious holidays. One more thing: It's the trendiest religion out there right now." In light of your current astrological omens, Gemini, you might want to draw inspiration from Ilize's perspective. In the coming weeks, you need to feed your spiritual side, but in ways that are fun, light-hearted, uncomplicated, guilt-free, and unburdened by concerns about reward and punishment.

Good Morning.....Moonshine?!?

So on my way to the train this morning I looked up and saw the moon out. Then I saw this helicopter fly by and hover. I wasn't something I see every day. I took two pictures. In this second one you can see some other thing in the distance in the top right hand side. Perhaps it is an alien ship? :) Anyway I really like this picture.

Grand Central Terminal

This is the clock at Grand Central Terminal. I worked right across the street from here for four years. Some people's offices overlooked this. I always thought it was so cool I really like the light and color of this picture.

Yummy Yummy in my Tummy

I saw this on 1st Ave on my way to rehearsal on Saturday morning. I had to stop...to take a picture. Too bad I didn't stop and have one!! I wonder if anyone buys one of these? I love cannolis!!

Wanna Kiss?

This is Lucy...she's a sweetheart. I think she learned it from her Daddy, P. She was happy to celebrate her sister, Ellie's birthday. Ellie turned 7 today. She'll be featured soon! :)

Tea time anyone?

Tonight on my way home I passed The Russian Tea Room. I never seem to walk across 57th Street so when I saw it I figured I had to get a picture. I had dinner there about 10 years ago with an ex. He took me there for dinner and I remember trying all these different vodkas and caviar. It was fun. I must admit I am not a vodka fan but this experience was special.

If you Believe in Life After Love...

P and I were out to dinner at Vynl in Hell's Kitchen prior to seeing "The Homecoming". Each bathroom there is themed around a singer. They have a tile mosaic of the artist on the wall with a doll of them in a case. Also their music is playing, it's really kind of cute. This location has - Dolly, Elvis, Cher and Nelly. I get all of them except Nelly. I mean Nelly?!? His body of work isn't quite as extensive as the others but what do I know?!?

Anyway after I left the restroom I realized I should take a picture. So as we were preparing to leave I went to take a picture but someone just went into Cher. I checked out Nelly (Nelly?!? I did find it odd that they were playing his explicit lyrics, so send your kids to anyone but him...I am just sayin!) but decided I really wanted to get a pic of Cher. P was gracious enough to go and take this picture for me.

Gemini Horoscope for week of January 24, 2008

If you have trouble resisting the urge to stay current with news about famous actresses, you may have a mental illness. A team of psychologists has certified "Celebrity Worship Syndrome" as an actual psychiatric condition. Now please listen to me closely: It is imperative that you stifle this malady during the next 25 days, even if you have a mild case of it. Your fantasy life needs to soar into unknown frontiers where more of the details of your own personal talents will be revealed, and you can't afford to be weighed down with fantasies about rich and charismatic people you don't know.

Friendly Florist

So K and I were walking up 8th Ave and I saw some beautiful flowers in the window. We went in to ask how much they were and the really nice florist was cutting these huge branches with these flowers on them. We talked to him about them and as we were leaving he but a flower from a branch and gave it to K. What a beautiful gesture. Sadly I think the heat in the apartment took it's toll on it as it looks a bit wilted.

Time Warp

So I was walking down the street with P in Brooklyn and we passed this old car parked on the street. It looked like it just rolled off the lot. It was really beautiful. I have to say I would be afraid to drive this or park it on the street.

Drama!

This is a photo of R as a very serious actor with a scarf on his head. What is his subtext?

Surprise!

This is a photo from Rosa Mexicano where we had K's surprise birthday. A whole gaggle of his friends came from far and wide. I must say the restaurant was beautiful but I felt a bit over priced and the food wasn't spectacular. It was a fun night however and so nice to see so many people. I am glad I was a part of it.

Home Today

I wasn't feeling well this morning so I stayed home. So no new pictures. However this is a picture I took on Thursday night. P and I saw Xanadu. We had a blast. It was my second time seeing the show, his first. I LOVE the music from the movie when I was a kid. I remember having the album, it was one of the first ones I had and playing it to death. I haven't seen the movie in years I should rewatch it.

Anyway I played with the editing features on the computer and came up with this version. I think it's kind of cool.

A View from a Window

This is the view out of one of the offices at work. I like how the cars are below just trying to get up 6th Ave on a rainy night. It was hard to get this one to be clear. Whenever I pushed the button the camera moved and it blurred. I must say I enjoy my images of iconic New York.

Tonight I got a copy of my front door key made and it doesn't work. HOW ANNOYING. Now I have take it back!!! Arrggh!

But I did have a great night at Xanadu with P.

Don't Look Now....But There's a GIANT Woman on 6th Avenue

I pass this frequently going down 6th Ave to WW. What attracted me to it was the pigeons but then I really liked this view - looking up. If you look closely you can see pigeons in various spots.

WW was good today. I really like this leader I stumbled onto last week and may end up going to her on Wednesday afternoons knowing I can go to the night time meeting if need be. They just started a men's meeting on Tuesday night I'd like to check out but I am not free on Tuesdays at the moment. Anyway I lost 1 lb today so that's great news. My mini goal for now is 6lbs. Ultimately I'd like to get down 19lbs by my Birthday at the end of May. I know I can do it I just have stay focused.

Gemini Horoscope for week of January 17, 2008

As I approached a pick-up truck from behind while out driving my car, I saw an unlikely bumper sticker. It said "Surf Colorado." But Colorado is a landlocked place, I thought to myself, more than a thousand miles from the ocean. At the next red light, I got closer to the truck and was able to read the fine print: "In your river kayak, you don't need an ocean to catch a wave." What a perfect message to convey to my Gemini readers, I mused, and resolved to write it into this horoscope. In fact, you are currently in a phase when you don't need an ocean to surf. Nor, for that matter, do you need a plane in order to fly, a soulmate to achieve romantic rapture, or money to be rich. Your imaginative powers are peaking at the same time as your resourcefulness.

The Color Purple

These are pics of a flower from S's desk at work. I just find the color so amazing. Then to see the details with macro is pretty cool too. Today was a long & rough day. Rehearsal was fun and I got to hang at Starbucks with P so it was a great way to end the night.

Falling Hearts and Baby Clothes

So I must say I hadn't taken any pictures today as it was raining this morning on my way to work and at lunch I was reading a play I auditioned for tonight. Then I ran to the audition grabbing dinner on the way (Thanks Boston Market) and finishing the play. I was at the audition from 7:30 till about 10:30. Thank God I ate first! I was thinking as I was leaving, "I haven't taken any pics". Then I popped my head into the theatre and saw how they had it painted. I just thought it was so beautiful.

Then as I was walking down Washington Street in Hoboken I noticed this window of baby clothes. It makes me think of someone special so I had to post it. Plus it inspires a whole new nickname considering I already use two of the three. :)

The audition went pretty well if I may say so myself. I had fun. It was for group I have worked with many times now. What a huge difference that is to walk in and be greeted so warmly. I read for all the open roles. I held my own I thought. But you never really know what they are looking for and so much goes into casting. It would be fun, so I am crossing my fingers. It was also only men auditioning as the women's roles were filled. It's crazy how that feels. But I kept to myself like I do and did the best I could. I told the director I was worried my schedule could be a problem since I am doing two shorter show through the middle of Feb and that I considered not coming but she said "ALWAYS come don't count yourself out". I had just said that to P on the phone today. I am glad I went even if I don't get it. It was really one of the most fun auditions I have ever done.

Just cause I didn't go out doesn't mean I can't post a picture!

This hangs in my room. I bought it in San Francisco years ago when I went to see my friend L. I was immediately attracted to it since I love the color purple. Also it is Dionysus the Greek God of theatre so I thought I had to have it. :)

They coulda been a contender...

So since I may not leave my house today except to have dinner with D in the hood, I need a day of rest/cleaning - somehow I think it will be heavy on the rest and light on the cleaning but who knows maybe I will surprise myself, I am posting pics from the last two weeks that I seriously considered for posting as pics of the day!

The above pic was on the corner near work on Friday 1/11. It just says New York to me. It lost out to the pic of the ghost man.

What is behind the blue door? This was on Waverly Place and I just really liked the way it looked. I want a blue door.

This is yet another pic I found walking down the hill from the A. These are some berries on a tree. I found them beautiful in their decay. I like the detail in the first one and the background in the second.

This is the fountain in front of work. Usually there is water coming out of it but they had it turned off but I liked the way gold of the of the fountain looks with the lights on the trees.

This is painted on the side of a building on 13th and 3rd avenue. I don't think it is associated with any store or anything I think it was just on the building. But still kind of cool.

This is the Chrysler Building from yesterday taken from 14th street near the Virgin Mega Store.

This was taken across the street from the restaurant and just as I snapped the pic a bus came by. So this is through the bus windows. I find it interesting because the sign is actually clearer then when I took it without the bus there.

Just a couple of pretty ornaments on a tree in the window of a Citibank on 42nd street. I just really like it.

The two pics above I took while leaving dinner at Gobo with P last Sunday. I took them through the barred window of an art shop. I like this artist cartoon style. I wish I could draw. The art seems simple but it doesn't translate to the page when I try to draw.

I love this pic. It's a perfect example of what this blog is about for me. I walk down the same hill every night from the A train to get home and have never noticed this before. It reminds me of a stained glassed window but I think it's really a tapestry in a window. Admittedly they may not have the light on in this room very often so maybe I'm not as unobservant as I fear. This was going to be the pic of the day on 1/7 but the Chrysler building won out.

This is a walkway I use every morning to get to work from the D train. I looked at it as I left work on Tues 1/8 and just thought it was cool. This was going to be the pic of the day but then I found Igor.
This was a flower I sat next to at dinner in Harlem with M & J. I really liked the richness of the colors but then the icy marble step won out on 1/4.

I saw this on the way to rehearsal last Saturday 1/5. I've always loved this building. It so doesn't seem like it fits in in NYC and yet it has a rich history. I believe it used to be the women's prison. I really should look it up.
This is my friend Rocky. He was looking for his friend Bullwinkle. He ran off when these two Russians, Natasha and Boris came by. Strange...I hope I see him again.

Tasti D-Lite and the city! What's not to love. This was my little treat last week. Cinnamon Crunch...I don't know why they called it crunch as there was nothing crunchy in it but it was delicious!

Harry Potter and the Virgin Mega Store?

Today's picture is of the outside of the building above the Virgin Mega Store in Union Square. I am sure I have seen this before but I don't know that I have ever really looked at it. It makes me think of a magic wand. As I was taking the picture I noticed at the very top of the building is a hand sticking out. I wonder what it's supposed to mean?

Mary Had a Baby...

I have a plant at work that I named Mary because she is a miracle. When I found her several months ago in an empty office at work she looked almost dead. Her leaves were all droopy and she looked horrible. I watered one day on my way out of the office and the next day she was perky and back to normal. When I moved to my current floor I brought her down with me and she sits near my desk next to the fax machine. It's funny because just this past Monday on my into work I thought, "Mary hasn't had a flower in a long time!" Well lo and behold she had one that day. So it has fully opened and she is looking great. She brightens my day.

Where's a Ghostbuster when you need one?

So I was going to post a picture of the Chorus Line billboard in Times Square since I saw the show with P tonight but after I took that picture I took this on the corner near the old TKTS booth and the N train. I just thought the carriage in Times Square was interesting then the man in the lower left corner walked by. But somehow my camera only registered him partially. He looks a bit ghost like. I should call Ghost Hunters (Real Life Paranormal Investigators from the SciFi Channel) to investigate. :)

I was in a horrible mood for most of the day at work but I got out of it eventually and had a nice dinner at Zen Palette with P before the show. I enjoyed the show but it is clear the actors were hired for their dancing ability before their singing ability. Also I have never really enjoyed the "Music and the Mirror" song...tonight was no exception. I forgot how much of the music I DO enjoy and the story really resonates with me. Especially the songs "Nothing" and "What I Did For Love". I got emotional a few times. Paul monologue was also a highlight and very moving.
It was a great evening to a craptastic day.

You Don't Bring Me Flowers...

This is a picture of a rose in the flowers in reception at work. I really like the pink edge along the furthermost edge of the rose. Thanks Macro setting!

Not much happened today. I went out to lunch but it was to run to WW. At least that went well down (4.8lbs!). The head of my group at work took all the assistants out to dinner tonight for the holidays (we had to postpone it from last year) to this Italian place near the office that I walk by everyday. I had ravioli stuffed with beets and Gorgonzola. I really liked it.

Also I found my ring at work this morning! YEAH! :)

Gemini Horoscope for week of January 10, 2008

This is a very favorable time to discover what has been hidden from you, to strip away disguises, and to penetrate to the real story that has been buried by the official propaganda. You're also likely to generate luck if you go in search of buried treasure, lost keys, and missing links. To help you achieve success in these noble if sometimes stealthy goals, keep in mind the advice of inventor George Washington Carver: "Anything will give up its secrets if you love it enough."

In Case You Are Looking For Him....

I found him. I don't know who Igor is but he is at a barber shop/salon on 21st somewhere between 8th & 5th Aves. He must be pretty special because he warrants a neon sign! I mean they don't give those away for free...at least I don't think they do if so I am gotta get me one of those.

I was in an odd mood today. I think I'm just tired. Plus I seem to have lost one of my rings. I've worn this ring for the last ten years and am really fond of it. I am hoping it's either at my job or I left it at K's job and someone found it. Cross your fingers!

Classic New York

So on my way to the dentist I looked up and saw the Chrysler Building. It was about 6pm and I took this with a flash. The ones without the flash looked more like the classic images I'm familiar with but I really liked this one best. I must say not taking a lunch really makes it rough to take pictures! :)

It was a busy day and I ran from work to the dentist then to the gym and then therapy. I am BEAT.

Artsy Fartsy

So today's photo is a piece of artwork I passed by on 3rd Ave near 42nd St as I went to meet M & E for brunch at Josie's. It's called : "Windward" by Jan Peter Stern and was made in Yonkers in 1961It was nice to catch up with them and to exchange gifts with M. Brunch was very good. Perhaps we have found a new favorite. I've been there before but never for breakfast foods.

I then walked around the city and took photos and picked up a play from Drama books. I also worked out which was nice to finally get back to, I hope to make it more of a habit this year.

I then met up with P for dinner at Gobo. It was yummy and fun. It's always fantastic to see him. Even if I was a crankypants at the start. I was a bit overwhelmed by how loud it was in the restaurant and I could swear the LOUD man sitting next to me was breaking up with his girlfriend.....AWKWARD!!! It was a great weekend I got some really nice pictures. I need to figure out how to post more or make an album to share.
