This is a picture of the A train station at 14th Street. These little pieces are all around the station. I don't why they are there or what made this the choice for the location but it adds some fun to it. I love these sculptures! They are so whimsical!
I looked this up and found out that it's an installation by a local artist named Tom Otterness. Says Wikipedia (and you know we can trust EVERYTHING we read on there!): "The main theme of his work seems to be the struggle of the little man against the Capitalist machine in a difficult and strange city."
I also learned that: "Journalist Gary Indiana criticized Otterness for an independent work done while part of the East Village art scene in the mid-eighties called 'Shot Dog Piece', in which Otterness 'adopted a dog and then shot it to death for the fun of recording his infantile, sadistic depravity on film.'"
Well, that's just sick.
